Now that we are temporarily closed we will continue to share online content, exhibitions, interviews, videos from Fondazione Sozzani archives over the coming weeks.
"Le fil rouge", the exhibition by Sarah Moon presented at the Galleria Carla Sozzani in 2006 included photos, a book and a short movie all based on the popular fairy tale “Bluebeard”, by Charles Perrault. Moon gave a modern interpretation of the young bride who escapes the revenge of her violent and furious husband and runs alone towards a bright horizon. The red thread that binds all the elements lea and ds the visitor into a tale of text and photographs, generating a unique and moving experience.

Sarah Moon wrote: "Avril, the young girl, dreams of a new life; she is seduced, marries Blue Beard, here an impresario who promises her bells and whistles, and, as in Perrault’s tale, understands, but too late, that he is an imposture, and even worth. What I wanted to express was my deep reluctance against all forms of authoritarianism, abuse of power, and my fear of the «stranglehold»."

In the bedroom he drops her onto the red bed and while she smiles and offers herself open armed, he leans over to embrace her and she disappears into his broad back...

In the office a dusty wedding dress is hanging on the wall...

"forbidden entry" is written on the door she enters. The room is red...it is cold. Some big black boxes are hanging on the walls. In each one a photograph, a name, a date, the wrought iron lilies, the same as those in her wedding bouquet. A film is projected. She looks. A women is screaming. Frozen with fear and in a state of stupor she understands that each of these dates represents a life and that these boxes are tombs...that these women are dead.

Now she is afraid for herself; the key is full of blood; she tries to clean it off on her dress but a stain marks the white, she rubs it but the stain grows worse. She rushes to the telephone; she calls her sister Anne...the telephone is cut off. The armoured door slides on its rails - he comes in -
she sees his shadow growing bigger on the wall….

Then very slowly, as in a nightmare...she faces him and in a last effort

she runs away.
