Lunedì 17 settembre alle ore 19.00 Clima Gallery inaugura la mostra Lo spavento dello terra, progetto a cura di Andrea Kvas con opere di Andrea Kvas, Jonatah Manno e Isao M’onma.
Per la prima volta in Italia saranno esposti lavori dell’artista giapponese Isao M’onma. Andrea Kvas e Jonatah Manno presenteranno nuove opere realizzate per l’occasione.
Il titolo della mostra riprende una frase del Re Lear di William Shakespeare nella traduzione del 1843 di Giulio Carcano: “farò cose, non so ancora quali, ma saranno lo spavento della terra”. Più che descrivere il pensiero che genera la mostra, Lo spavento della terra rimanda a quell’emozione viscerale che amplifica la percezione sensoriale di ciò che ci accade intorno in un momento di presunto pericolo, rendendoci più vigili e ricettivi.
Come spiega il curatore Andrea Kvas “continua ad essere fondamentale la questione del movimento, della creazione di oggetti che forzano il dinamismo della percezione, scardinando la contemplazione passiva. Tutto nasce da un desiderio di esplorazione, di tuffarsi nell’ignoto: il desiderio di spaventarsi.
Le opere in mostra sono accomunate dalle molteplici possibilità di inoltrarsi in dimensioni profonde, in cui i contorni netti delle immagini lasciano spazio a zone ‘grigie’, di dubbio, di introspezione e di viaggi solitari. Dallo spavento emergono dei gesti che nella loro reiterazione generano, come fossero dei mantra, infinite strade da seguire.”
Jonatah Manno (1976) vive e lavora a Lecce.
La ricerca di Jonatah Manno si sviluppa sullo studio dei simbolismi tradizionali dell’esoterismo e della teosofia e sull'antropologia come sistema olistico di interazione tra l'uomo e l'ambiente circostante. In questo senso l’utilizzo dei materiali nelle sue installazioni ha sempre un valore plurimo e simbolico rendendo le sue opere soggette a significati molteplici. Dopo aver vissuto per diversi anni a Berlino, Manno ritorna nella nativa Lecce. Tra le principali mostre la personale al Museo Apparente di Napoli nel 2013 e la personale del 2016 a Cripta 747 (Torino).
Isao M’onma (s.d.) vive e lavora in Giappone.
Artista attivo da oltre quarant’anni, Isao M'onma non parla molto del suo lavoro, ma sembra che una parte molto importante di esso si basi sulla perdita del controllo intellettuale. Come spiega lui stesso, un giorno, seduto per disegnare il suo solito soggetto, una natura morta, sentì un'entità prendere la sua mano mentre cadeva in uno stato ipnagogico. Da quel momento tutta la sua produzione si sviluppa in quello stato di alterazione. I suoi lavori sono stati esposti per la prima volta nel 2012 presso la Galleria Cavin-Morris di New York, nel 2016 al Mori Art Museum di Tokyo e nel 2018 alla Collection de l’Art Brut di Losanna.
Andrea Kvas (1986) vive e lavora a Milano.
Il lavoro di Andrea Kvas fonde un approccio giocoso e istintivo alla pittura con un’analisi e riconsiderazione dei codici che contraddistinguono questa disciplina. La sua ricerca pittorica richiede diversi schemi di fruizione che l’hanno portato a trovare diverse intersezioni con pratiche scultoree, relazionali e curatoriali. Nel 2014 cura la prima mostra collettiva “parassita” Dopapine a San Giovanni Valdarno. Tra le principali mostre le personali al Museo Marino Marini di Firenze (2012) e alla Galleria Ermes-Ermes di Vienna (2015).

Monday September 17 from 19.00, Clima Gallery presents the exhibition Lo Spavento della Terra, a project curated by Andrea Kvas with works by Andrea Kvas, Jonatah Manno and Isao M’onma.
For the first time in Italy there will be on view works by the Japanese artist Isao M’onma. Andrea Kvas and Jonatah Manno will present new artworks made specifically for the exhibition.
The title of the exhibition recalls a sentence by William Shakespeare’s King Lear from the 1843 Giulio Carcano’s translation: “I will do such things – What they are yet I know not, but they shall be The terrors of the earth!” Beside describing the generating thought the exhibition, “Lo Spavento della Terra” reminds to the gut emotion amplifying the sensory perception of what happens around us in a moment of apparent risk, making us more alert and receptive.
As in the words of the curator Andre Kvas “the matter of the movement, of creating objects forcing the perception’s dynamic, undermining the passive contemplation, is still fundamental. All this origins from a desire for exploring, diving in the unknown: the desire of being scared.
The artworks on display all have multiple possibilities of going in deep dimensions, where the images’ neat outlines leave room for grey areas of doubt, introspection and solitary journeys. From the scare arise gestures that, in their recurrence, generate, as mantras, infinite paths to follow.”
Jonatah Manno (1976) lives and works in Lecce.
Jonatah Manno’s research develops around the study of esotericism and theosophy’s traditional symbolisms and on anthropology as an holistic system of interaction between human being and surrounding environment. In such sense the use of materials in his installations always had a multiple and symbolic value, subjecting his works to multiple meanings. After years in Berlin, Manno comes back to his hometown Lecce. Among the main shows the solo exhibition at Museo Apparente in Naples in 2013 an at Cripta 747 in 2016.
Isao M’onma (s.d.) lives and works in Japan.
Artist active since forty years, Isao M’onma doesn’t talk much about his work, but it seems like an important part of it is based on the loss of intellectual control. As he himself explains, one day, while set to draw his usual subject, a still life, he felt an entity taking his hand while he was falling in an hypnagogic state. From that time on all of his production develops in that altered state of mind. His works have been showed for the first time at Cavin-Morris gallery in New York, in 2016 at Mori Art Museum in Tokyo and in 2018 at the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne.
